Nag Hammadi Reservoir Project

About this project

It is noteworthy that the new Naga Hammadi Barrage was constructed in 2008 and pumps 220 million cubic meters of water daily. It consists of two first-class navigation locks, 17 meters wide and 160 meters long each, a spillway that includes 7 gates, each 17 meters wide, and a power generation station with a capacity of 64 megawatts. In addition to a bridge with a capacity of 70 tons, the barrages also include two first-class navigation locks attached to the new bridge so that ships and vehicles can pass, in addition to a bridge to connect the two banks of the Nile River.

The barrages consist of 100 springs, the distance between each spring is 6 metres. The barrages contain a navigation lock whose basin is 80 meters long and 16 meters wide, allowing the passage of the largest Nile ships in Egypt, while the roof of the barrages is a road to facilitate transportation between the East and West of the Nile. It was designed These bridges can withstand a balance difference of 4 meters for the duration of the flood.

Thousands of citizens flock there annually to eat fish caught directly from the Nile River by fishermen
